Freshman Reflection

At the end  of middle school I saw myself as one of the most popular and smartest people in my school. I said to myself that high school would be just as easy as middle school. But I was wrong. Now that I've experienced a full year of high school I realized that popularity gets you nothing but attention. It doesn't get you good grades, perfect attendence, good work habits just attention. I personally have become a completly different student I have matured and truly finally realized the meaning of school. My expectations were very simple make friends, make the basketball team and get all A's and B's. But only 1 of my 3 goals came to pass. And as I sit here and write this I realize that everything I wanted to do could have gotten done but I let my laziness and fear get in the way of the that. Since coming to high school a family member that I don't see as frequently as I like to is my grandmom. I believe my grades werent as good the year before because I didn't have someone I could to for help or keep on track to completing my homework. I believe that my relationship with my dad has changed a lot. There used to be a time when my dad told me how he loved to talk to people about how well I was doing. But now it seems that he's just bracing hiself for one dissapointment after the other. But I want to and know I can change things. My opinion of people has changed over the year especially the people who I calle my friends but they weren't really. I realized that true would'nt try to bring you down but instead keep you up and help you maintain grades you aim for. I have become more optimistic about my future because I realized all the mistakes I have made and have learned  from them therefore that making a better person from the outcome. Something I started to do new is treat my younger brother more nice. I've done this because it seemed like I was always downing him so I changed that and not only has our relationship become better but I also feel better. The way changed as a student since coming to parkway is I am now realizing the importance of school. I see now that it's not a social hour its a place where you come to learn. But that doesn't mean you can't meet good friends along the way.

Rajon Rondo's 44 points!

Rajon Rondo’s monster performance in Game 2 against the Heat last Wednesday night was basically for nothing because  Miami beat Boston in overtime. But Rondo’s performance won’t soon be forgotten. Call it the Rondo game: all 53 minutes played, 44 points on 16 of 24 shooting, 10 assists and eight rebounds. This isn't the greatest  playoff performance ever seen but for a player who usually dishes the ball out more than shooting it is. People, sports analyst and fans frequently criticize his poor jump shooting but that night he was red hot from everywhere except where he usually dominates and that's inside the lane.. And to not only to add on to a monster scoring performance he had a great passing display as well dishing out his usual 10 assist also adding 8 rebounds. Even though in that game he played his heart out his team was still unable to hold on to the lead. Many people say that since the Boston Celtics is losing their dominate force in the "Big 3" Rondo has too not only maintain his current all star stats but increase his scoring to become a true superstar in the league. One reason Rondo can be a threat is it's almost impossible to guard him due to the fact that he can hurt you in so many different ways. Either its dishing out a beautifully placed pass or faking you out and quickly getting to the lane or just a simple pull up for a 15 ft. jumper.

The Ultimate Sacrifice(This I Believe...)

Army Major Peter Godfrin wears a bracelet that has the name of a young Sergeant who he worked with who was killed by a landmine. He believes that the ultimate sacrifice is taking your life too save someone else's. He believes this because the sergeant he worked along jumped on a landmine to save his team from certain death. He also feels like a great man was taken from this world and he should be permenantly indebted to him. In his opinion "he was a good kid who loved what he did and loved even more what he was fighting for". I honestly completely with . his statement because the greatest sacrafice a person can make is to not only devote their life to something but actually give up their lives for a cause greater than them. He was agreat guy who always would think of others rather than himself first said Godfrin. I believe that Army Major Peter Godfrin will never forget about the young who lost his life to save many others.

Broadcasting....whiteness

I have recently read an article talking about shows that have many white characters showing little to no contact witht any other races but their own. That show that has been brought up is the show Girls on HBO. There have been many shows like this such as Full House, The Jersey Shore, Make it or Break it , Drake & Josh and the list continues. I personally  do not mind if there are a variety of different races because honestly it doesnt matter to me as long as I'm getting some form of entertainment. I also believe its a good thing because usually in a diverse cast anyone other than wite people are portrayed as simple minded fools. But truthfully there are many shows that are polar opposites such as The Cosby Show, Keenan & Kel, The Jeffersons and Sanford and Son. These  shows featured little to no white people at all. One show that surprising has no black people what so ever is ABC's Modern Family. It features many races buit not African American. In conclusion I personally don't mind what race is on my T.V screen as long as it amuses ME what does it really matter.

New Fashion Wrinkle

Woolrich , a 182-year-old clothing company, this company as you see has been around for many years and is very popular for their fashion statement and way of attire .This clothing company now has so new adjustments . they have clothing that you are able to hide weapons in such as guns, and knifes. This company has made a lot of money off of these clothing’s to customers. I believe that this line of clothes is extremely unessacary . I believe it supports all the wrong reasons I mean really who wants special clothing to hide their weapons. To be realistic I believe that this type of paraphernalia should only be sold to be in the army or police men, because they need it. To me it supports all the wrong reasons, it probably make people eager to purchase un needed weapons.”The chinos, that cost 65.00$, are not for commandos, but rather, the company says, for the fashion-aware gun owner. And Woolrich has competition” So this mean that wool rich isn’t the only company. And some frugal people might think that these items are quite expensive .But that does matter if it well quality.  Many  people who are actually in the army , appreciate these clothing items. Shawn Thomson 35 yrs, who  works at an auto dealership in eastern Kentucky brought two shirts recently , and he wrote on his blog that “Most of the clothes I used in the past to hide my side arm looked pretty sloppy and had my girlfriend complaining about my looks” So that’s one complaint.

Indonesian Earthquake

A major earthquake struck off the coast of Indonesia Wednesday afternoon with a reported magnitude of 8.6, sparking tsunami warnings for Australia and coastal nations across Southeast Asia, central Asia and parts of the Arabian Gulf. Experts said early indications were that the quake, which struck around 2:30 p.m. local time, was caused by a horizontal shift in the earth’s plates of a type less likely to cause severe tsunamis than vertical shifts, which tend to displace larger volumes of water. No one had any indication that the earthquake was coming so when it hit many people lost their lives to a natural disaster that no one could have predicted. They also say that tsunami warnings have been anounced throughout the 2 days. Many people were terrified when they felt this massive quake shook their home. This quake devestated millions of indonesian people men, women, children and old alike.

Afghan girls rying to be denied schooling rights by terrorist

In "Afghan Girls, Scarred by Acid, Defy Terror, Embracing School" Dexter Filkins explores the topic of girls in Afghanistan not being able to go to school without them and their parents fearing them getting hurt. Most of the girls that were injured while trying to go to school, did not want to go back because they feared what would happen if they did.
The article has quotes from girls that were apart of this, their parents, and the principle. One very important fact that I found in this article was that even though some girls suffered injuries from trying to go to school, they still went even in fear of getting hurt badly or even killed.
I think that girls should be able to go to school and get an education, just as males are able to. The reason I think that girls should have the same rights to learn as men is because no one wants a wife who cant even read. Plus if she stays at home all day where will your kids get their knowledge from?
I believe this is extremely wrong because people of their own nation still prefer believe that woman of that country should be simple minded nd uneducated as past generations.

births out of marriage

In this article they give the reason that women got married because they were with child and so they could keep their respect up. i don't agree that a women should get married for a reason such as keeping your respect up. i believe that a women should only get married when they find that special someone that could spend the rest of their life. marriage is more than staying together because of a baby, it is committed and dedication. if you don't have that then you shouldn't get married. i think that less people are marrying before they have kids because there became thing such as birth control and condoms.
I don't think that it is a good think that more and more women are getting pregnant outside of marriage, but Im not against it either. women now have a choice to get married if they have kid. they are no longer pressure nor expected to get married if they feel its not right. When I was born my mom and dad were not married but yet at least she had a choice. They may not be together now but at least they loved each other then and that's all that matters. Besides my mom was over the age the of 30 and was old enough to make decisions that she proud enough to live with. She didn't have to get married to maintain a reputation or anything like that because she proud of what she did.

Is Facebook using you?

This article is about how author Lori Andrews has noticed facebook makes millions from the advertisments facebook shows us. I think the main point of this article is Lori Andrews wants people to be more careful with their searches because they could lose an opportunity. I don't ever worry about something that I posted online to be used against me beacause i never put anything online so serious I will say to them it to he/she in person or call them. And any feelings i have I can keep them to myself. Facebook uses a lot of advertisements to pull people in who have the need for something that ad and or have had history of buying the like product. After this I am concerned what I do and say online because the future I could lose a job opportunity just for one mistake I made as a teenager. So if there is anything i have to say I don't have to put it online. worry about personal and private messages. sometimes i think like what if somebody find out about these messages or if the person i sent them to will share them. i dont worry about my facebook, twitter, or blog because my post are never personal. i just write little stuff most of the time, as long as its appropriate then im cool.

Can You Feel The LINSANITY!!!

The talk of the NBA has been an undrafted young man who's name is Jeremy Lin. His story is so amazing because he went from the tenth man on the bench to starting point guard for one of the team with one the greatest cities in the world and that is the New York Knicks. He has arisen as a star  in the NBA by having 7 of the greatest games played by a young man with almost no in game experience. He spent months perfecting his craft and staying humble as possible so when his number was called he would be ready to shock the world. Even if he doesn't take his team to finals basketball fans around the nation will remember the number 17. Jeremy Lin has not only taken MSG by storm but the league itself as well. Quickly Jeremy Lin has become the viral face of the Knicks and NBA. Many people from far and wide enjoy his everything from his complicated handshake to his amazing on court play. The people of New York have continuously have sold out crowds just to see this young man. He has been considered being close to the popularity of New York Giants QB Eli Manning and New York Yankees shortstop derek jeter. Jeremy Lin

I'm A Criminal And So Are You

The article I am a criminal and so are you is about a woman who believes that like it or not everyone has committed a crime at some point or another but just never really looked at it as a serious as it was. She as well as I believe that people shouldn't be labeled as thieves, or under aged drinkers or drug abusers when most people have done this before but just haven't been caught for committing the crime. Many people have accidentally walked out the store with out paying or got the wrong change from a cashier and received no type of penalty for their actions. But when someone else does it they get labeled a convicted felon for the rest of their lives and lose many educational and job opportunities which is completly unfair to that person. So in my opinion everyone has done something that they're not proud of but yet only on a few have been convicted and that is completely unfair in my opinion.I doubt Barack Obama thinks of himself as a criminal, though he should. He has admitted to using illegal drugs during his college years -- lots, in fact. What if he thought of himself as a criminal? What if he identified that way? Would it lead him to feel a bit more compassion for those who are branded drug felons for life, unable to find work or housing, and deemed ineligible even for food stamps?" she said in her article.
       nobody should be treated differently

Photoshopped or Not

Photo shop is something used by many people to crop, edit change or discolor a picture. Many advertisement companies have been known to use it to make the people who's advertising their products look skinnier or remove tattoos or even facial blemishes  to make them look almost perfect. You can almost tell when you see a celebrity in a picture and tell he or she has been photo shopped  by the way their body looks. I honestly believe photo shop is wrong because people shouldn't have to use a computer tool to make themselves look good because everyone should be comfortable in their own skin. People need to be more proud of who they are and not think to themselves and not feel as if they need a computer to change their personal appearance.Celebrities and people  constantly feel as if  they have a certain image attain to the public to make others look at them as different people so they use photoshop to chage their pperance to the world and make the look diifferent or convey a completely different side of them which is completely ridiculous because everyone is beautiful intheir own way

Ipad work labor

In my opinion IPad work labor in China is completely unfair to the people who work there. Many people are exposed to harmful chemicals, extremely bright and unfit working conditions and temperatures. I presume that many people have contracted many sicknesses and physical injuries because of working in the unsafe factory. They work from the morning to the night in a factory that should've been torn down long ago. When that fire broke out and some many were killed or fatally wounded that would make many people think to themselves; what is more important the the death and injuries of hundreds of hardworking people or a few pieces of meaningless technology. I do not understand the fact that all these powerful corperate officers do not want help out the area where most of their employees are. I understand to get as many products out as possible they need to keep everyone working. But with the billions of dollars of revenue they collect each year why cant they simply give better  working enviornments to their hardworking and faithful employees who work their hardest from day to night.

Cracking Teenagers

This week I read an article called "Cracking Teenagers' Online Codes by Pamela paul this is about how Dr. Boyd thinks that teenagers need more privacy and learn some things on their own. the main idea of Cracking Teenagers online codes about how parents are being over protective about the wrong things. Such as not letting their teens go outside because they think their going to get raped or banning them from the web because they their talking to strangers that are pedophile. Some facts in the article was when Dr. Boyd said parents think their kids can get molested when their talking online with strangers but she says the real people that molest teens are the one who already know them such as an uncle or family friend. I think this was a good article i really like the part when Dr. Boyd said teens need privacy and i liked the part when she said the real people that molest teens are the ones who already know them. That reminds me of the movie " Lovely Bones" her neighbor raped her. He already knew her, he knew everything about her like what school she went to, her hobbies and he had a friendly neighborly type friendship with her parents.

Biggest Story Of 2011

This year biggest story to me was the Jerry Sandusky story . I really personally hate him for doing that I don't even know Jerry Sandusky and when I hear his name it makes me sick to my stomach . Jerry sandusky is a heartless man he deserves everything that's coming his way. Nobody and I mean nobody deserves to be violated in such a way that you think that you have nobody to tell what happened to you people waited 8 or something years just to come out and say what happened. Research Show that Sandusky was released on 25o k Bail . What ? He needs to stay in jail I don't CARE how much he try to convience people that all he did was take a shower with them kids no he did way more and their are alot of victims behind his actions . Jerry sandusky is a disgrace he is so disrespectful and he just deserves everything bad . This was the biggest story to me just because it really grabbed my attention .

Breaking Up Over Facebook: Good or Bad

I agree and disagree with the the"Teaching Kids How To Break Up" article. In this article the Boston Public Health Commission held a  conference to try to teach teens to break up with their boyfriend or girlfriend. This article contains quotes from teens who give their honest opinion on the topic at hand. I agree with this article in some ways because sometimes when  people are in 2 year, 1 year or even 6 month relationships, as long as it was committed and heart felt, breaking up on facebook, twitter, tumblr or by text message is something you just don't do.  The part I disagree with is, if your in 2 or 3 week relationship and you find out that person isnt who you thought they were, that is the time you get out with a quick text. But you have to be compassionate about that person's feelings.
